Trouble With Smartphones

We went out to breakfast recently and I looked around and almost everyone was looking at their smartphones instead of talking with the people they were at the table with.  I was with my mom, dad, and Ken.  None of us have smartphones so we just had each other to talk with.

I think it is very sad.  What is so important that you can't converse with the people you are with but have to play with your smartphone instead?  What has happened to eye to eye contact and person to person conversation?

Even when I am mentoring some women for just one hour, if they get a text or a call, they need to answer it. We have become slaves to our cell phones and smartphones.  They have become more important than the people we are with.  There is rarely an emergency situation that can't wait an hour or so.

My sister's family has a long held policy that they will not answer their phone during dinner hours and if they are out to dinner or visiting with people, they turn their phones off.  They refuse to allow their cell phones and smartphones to rule their lives.  I think they are very wise.

Life is short.  We were meant to be with people, face to face and person to person.  Don't allow technology to interfere with your life with your family and friends who are nearby and right next to you.

Therefore be careful how you walk,
not as unwise men but as wise,
making the most of your time,
because the days are evil.
